Lady Gaga's Monster Ball Tour was welcomed by the Air Canada Centre for a sold-out show on Saturday November 28th 2009. Her tour started in Montreal, Quebec on November 27th and with very tight security, no photography or press passes are allowed on the first few nights of the tour. This comes with reasoning that since this is her first large tour, they want her to find her way around the stage and become comfortable being the headliner of the show.
Lady Gaga got her start 6 months ago playing a club show at the Kool Haus. She did not have a band, back up singers or props. Just herself.
Since seeing Lady Gaga’s elaborate performances at the Grammy’s, everyone expected her concerts to be exactly the same if not more. On Saturday, Gaga's success was clear with slick-looking videos, lights, complex costumes, dancers, and yes a band. Some have said that her costume changes did take a little long and the stage was left dark, with no entertainment to keep the audience busy, but with amazing and crazy costumes you would need to respect the time it would to change from one to the other.
Gaga opened the show with a green laser lit video screen dressed in a futuristic silver jeweled jumpsuit, singing her new song Dance In The Dark. Then she strapped on a portable silver jeweled keyboard for the next song, Just Dance while inside a white cube, and the show really came alive.
"How ya doing Toronto?" she said. "What's up little monsters? And the whole ACC went in an uproar.
"Don't you all look amazing," she added later. "Has anybody passed out yet? Don't pass out. It distracts me. It makes me nervous. Are you drunk? Are you with your mom?"
Yes, that is Lady Gaga’s character. You would not normally expect an artist to accept the fact that people are under the influence and normally they ignored it, but Gaga embraced that her fans came out, their enjoying their night, and most importantly they were enjoying her music!
The songs that Lady Gaga performed were;
Dance In The Dark, Just Dance, Love Game, Alejandro, Monster, So Happy I Could Die, Teeth, Speechless, Poker Face (on piano), Fashion, The Fame, Money Honey, Beautiful Dirty Rich, Boys Boys Boys, Paper Gangsta, Poker Face (with band), Paparazzi, Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say), and finally Bad Romance to close the show.
